Kingstom Nursery School
Having been approached by the ECD (Early Childhood Department) at the Brikama
College of Education to help with a nursery school where the headmaster had recently
passed away, we will endeavour to help this school, firstly by a sponsorship programme
as 90% of the pupils are unable to pay their tuition fees and buy their uniforms and also
by securing a better building for the school.
The Headmistress, (wife of the late headmaster) is continuing to run the school and carry
on the good work her husband started. This is a huge struggle for her as she has to rely
on the parents paying their childrens’ school fees to be able to pay the teachers. As this school is situated well away from the tourist area it doesn’t receive any visitors or outside help.
There are 150 children enrolled at this school, divided between three classrooms, which
are in a desperate state. The structure of the school is very poor and the roof needs
attention, together with some work in the classrooms. The blackboards are extremely
poor and yet these children are taught in the best possible way given the facilities they
have. The children are very happy and eager to learn. If you would like to help with this school, you can find 20 of the most needy children for sponsorship on the website.
| If you know of any school/organisation which have any surplus books/stationery/aids, please do get in touch, so that we can put these to good use in one of our schools. |

After 15 long months the Trust has finally purchased a large plot of land in a rural area to build a nursery/primary school.Following on from a visit by two of the Trustees, planning permission was granted by the Area Council and great support and encouragement given by both the Planning Office and the Education Department.
Building materials were purchased and transported to the land. It was very important to get the materials to the land as once the rainy season starts (June/July) it will not be possible to transport anything to the area. This is because all the roads are dirt tracks and become deeply rutted in the rainy season and therefore impassable by vehicles.
Once all the materials reached the site, 5 teams of labourers were employed to dig the footings for the wall and to make the blocks. Many of the villagers joined into help and the aldies were filling up the water containers to help. The boundary wall is now well underway and gates are being made to secure the compound. Once the wall is completed work will commence on the building of the classrooms.
As there is no school in this area the Trust hopes to get this project completed as quickly as possible, so that the local children can attend school.Everyone is very excited about this new project and eager to help.
Please keep looking at this page for regular updates on the build.
